Start with the fiber
Mohawk’s SmartStrand is a Triexta fiber that the mill says is made in part from renewable content from corn, with built-in stain protection and a lifetime All Pet stain warranty. Shaw’s Pet Perfect carpet carries a plain promise: if your pet stains it, Shaw will replace it. Dreamweaver is the carpet line from Engineered Floors.
Then the cushion
What goes underneath matters as much as what shows. The Carpet and Rug Institute’s guidance is that cut pile wants a firm cushion no thicker than 7/16 of an inch. The cushion is part of every carpet estimate, priced with the carpet that goes over it.
Keeping it
The same institute says carpet should be cleaned the way its maker specifies, roughly every 12 to 18 months, and its Seal of Approval marks cleaning products and machines tested to lift soil without harming the pile.

What is SmartStrand carpet made of?
